Tour de Yorkshire Celebration

DJS celebrated the Tour de Yorkshire in style on Friday 1st May. All children (and some adults!) collectively cycled, scooted, ran or walked the distance of the race – 515km!! Throughout the day other exciting activities were in full flow including a treasure hunt and competitions for the best helmet or jersey design. Well done to everyone and a special well done to the School Council, who helped to organise the events, along with Miss Elliott and Mr Hopper. 🙂

Year 5’s Musical Treat

On Wednesday all of year 5 went up to the senior school. First we all lined up at the door with partners. On the way there, which isn’t far, most people were telling jokes to their partner. When we arrived most of the seniors were going to their next period therefore it was very crowded. When we got into the building there was a massive orchestra. Two of the people playing where Mr Siddle and Mr Pymm! We came in to Pirates of the Caribbean and they told us about the different instruments in the orchestra. In between the performances, we watched a little clip to introduce the next song. On the way back nearly every teacher asked me if he enjoyed it because I was as still as a statue and so into it! I enjoyed the whole afternoon.  Kyle 5D

Year 5 Greek Day!

Year 5 enjoyed their Greek day on Wednesday. They wore white and blue clothes (to represent the Greek flag) and took part in lots of different activities including a mini Olympics, food tasting, drama activities and some art and crafts. The day was described as ‘amazing and fun!’ Below is a slideshow of the year group during food tasting activities. How many funny faces can you spot?!

ANOTHER Netball Achievement!!!

Our netball team competed at the County Tournament tonight after winning the cluster tournament last week. The weather was definitely not in their favour as they faced tough competition. Miss Elliott and Miss Westerby are thrilled to say that DJS are THIRD IN THE COUNTY!! This is an incredible achievement and one that is definitely deserved by all 7 members of the team. Well done to every player and a big thank you to our encouraging fans too!

Cross Country Champions!

Tonight saw 8 children from DJS represent the school and East Riding in the Humber School Games Level 3 Competition. George Naylor, Jules Brigham, Spencer Greenlaw and Will Garbe represented East Riding Y3/Y4 Boys.  George actually won the race which consisted of 80 boys.  A truly fantastic achievement to come first out of all the boys in East Riding, Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire!  Awesome!!  As a school, the boys came second out of all these areas!!!!

The Y5/Y6 Boys (Sam Young, Bradley Arnold, Ruben Syrett and Jack Lacy) also represented the school with pride. Well done boys – you are all stars!!!!

Orienteering Success!

90 children from DJS and another 30 from other local schools took part in an orienteering festival at Driffield School tonight.

Children, in pairs, had to use a map and their speed to make their way around various courses in the grounds of Driffield School.

Some took longer than others!  All children were eventually found!  DJS emerged victorious at all age groups and will now progress to the Humber School Games Level 2 Competition at Burton Constable in May.

Well done to everyone who took part!!!!
