On Monday, following a very enjoyable Zumba lesson, 3G took part in their very first session of yoga!

Super science in 4N!

This week, 4N have been researching ‘Changing States’.  The children have been investigating the properties of solids, liquids and gases and also reversible and irreversible changes.  We have had fun looking at the viscosity of liquids and trying to dissolve lots of different materials.  You will see from the photos that the children have been very ‘hands on’ testing some of the materials we have looked at!  It has been quite messy but good fun!!

Rounders Success!

Tonight saw 24 children represent DJS in a Driffield Cluster Rounders Tournament.  One of our two teams emerged victorious, beating a powerful Hutton Cranswick team in the final.  The other competing schools were Kilham and North Frodingham.

Y6 Hockey

29 fantastic Year 6 pupils represented school in the hockey tournament at Driffield School last night.  We fielded 3 skillful teams – and won.  Well done to all the amazing young people – they were outstanding ambassadors for school.

Year 6 support World Land Trust Organisation

Year 6 became particularly inspired by their Rainforest Topic. The whole year group were shocked to find out the devastating statistic that an area the size of a football pitch is deforested every single second. Horrified, they set about raising funds to help put a stop to this! 6A designed, budgeted, made and sold ‘jungle juice’ and ‘bug biscuits’, raising a huge amount of money! 6M ran a very successful tombola. All classes in year 6 dressed up to show their support. In total, through their hard work, year 6 managed to raise a massive £386. This means that Driffield Junior School can proudly conserve 4 acres of rainforest that will now be protected by law as a nature reserve.

Bike Breakfast Bonanza!

Children enjoyed their bike breakfast with Mr Hopper and Damien last week. Their pedal power produced their yummy smoothies!

3D Maths

In 3D maths we have been estimating how much different parcels weighed. We used an apple as a benchmark to estimate how much each parcel weighed.

Tour de Yorkshire Celebration

DJS celebrated the Tour de Yorkshire in style on Friday 1st May. All children (and some adults!) collectively cycled, scooted, ran or walked the distance of the race – 515km!! Throughout the day other exciting activities were in full flow including a treasure hunt and competitions for the best helmet or jersey design. Well done to everyone and a special well done to the School Council, who helped to organise the events, along with Miss Elliott and Mr Hopper. 🙂
